19 Oct 2008: Having BGEN Whitaker as my Deputy Commander has been truly an adjunct for AMC. He has vigorously and un-selfishly attacked every tasked assignment I have given him. In the past 2 months, AMC has been involved with 3 major operations. Operation Coronet Oak, which ran from 5 August to 24 August sported 200 missions in the ATO, with a 80% completion rate. Operation Gustav, which ran from 30 August to 5 September called for 47 missions with a 99% completion rate. The current operation, which is in it's final phase, Operation Ike, which ran 4 phases, 90 missions were in the ATO, with a better than 98% completion rate. BGEN Whitaker also planned the upcoming AMC Rodeo, which was postponed due to the Hurricane Relief Operations. He dedicated countless hours to the Rodeo, which should prove to be another premiere event for AMC, once conducted

The mission completion rate is is a testament to BGEN Whitaker's leadership, organization skills, communication ability, planning and execution of the Operations. Be it known, that the Hurricane relief missions were planned and executed in minimal time. BGEN Whitaker also flew in all Operations, amassing more than 250 hours.

I am proud and honored to have him as Deputy Commander, AMC. His distinct and noble accomplishments as Wing Commander, and then DC, is a testament to excellence, to which all Commanders should utilize as a template for their Commands. His uncanny Command Style, Mission planning abilities, Leadership and dedication to duty is far above reproach, to which all should aspire. I am recommending BGEN Whitaker be awarded the VUSAF Distinguished Service Medal
